Current Location: Seattle, Washington
I’ve moved on from Minnesota and once again it was an incredible month, hard to believe that 1 month came and went there already. I must thank Aunt Jess and Uncle Lou who let me have a run of their place while being there and for showing me some incredible bicycling routes through the city. I think that St. Paul, Minneapolis should be the standard at which cites should strive to achieve in terms of bicycle commuting. Also a huge thanks goes to Rob, Patty, MaryBeth and Ruthie who let me bum around their house and eat their food. And Jim and Theresa who let me lounge around the cabin and pull me behind the boat, even if I couldn’t stand on water.
It seems the life that I’ve chosen for the time being lets me learn a new place and then immediately move on. I’ve also let go of the car mom and dad let me have, it’s moving to a new owner later this month in Michigan and I’ll rely solely on bicycle to get around. In that theme I’ve talked myself into bicycling from Seattle to Los Angeles later this month. Currently i’m getting work done to my bicycle as recommended by my Uncle Bill in Montana who rode my bike and immediately said I needed brakes that could actually stop the bike. I received the maps that I ordered for the route from Seattle to Los Angeles several days back and it looks like I’ll be on route 101 for a majority of the ride through California. It also kinda shows elevation through California and I have to admit there is a bit of trepidation because there’s some large spikes which means tough uphills but at the same time means amazing downhills. I think my goal will be to do 80 to 90 miles a day which puts me in LA between 15-18 days after leaving here.
On a seperate note I have to thank Uncle Rob for letting me hitch a ride to Seattle, it turned out to be a really fun trip with MaryBeth as she started her freshman year at Whitman in Walla Walla. I also changed my mind towards the most scenic road traveled on this trip. It’s now route 12 through Idaho. We saw about a dozen bicyclists touring that rode and after driving the road I can understand why.
